Television has positive effects on society

Andrea Garcia

Television has been criticized since the first one came out in the 1930s. Some critics say that TV is crucial to the development of children others say that it might be the destruction of mankind. Some might say that it disrupts the quality and values of a family, and it influences the viewer. The influence from TV often has a more positive effect on people.

The news channels helps inform the public. It also educates children with channels that not only teach kids to read and write it influences them to expand their minds and vocabulary.

Some channels and movies show strong  characters facing obstacles that they thought they couldn’t overcome. It also relates to people’s daily lives. It encourages many to pursue their goals and dreams.

Even though there are many studies that prove that television is harmful for viewers there are also many studies that prove that tv is helpful and educational for viewers. Just because people allow themselves to be influenced by negative things it doesn’t mean it’s the television fault.

Some might say that watching too much tv can be time consuming, almost to the point of addiction. Wouldn’t it be safer to be watching tv at night in your safe house than out in town with friends that often make irrational decisions?

Other critics, might say that television causes violence, but in reality it teaches us how to be safe. They air shows that teach meditation exercises and it also shows how to defend oneself from injustice.

Next time your sitting down watching your favorite show, I suggest that you make a list of the positive and negative things you learn from it, I’m sure that the positives will outweigh the negatives.
