She was shivering from nerves, and couldn’t control her sweating, clammy palms.
Why?
Today was the first day of her junior year.
Cielo Puerta wants an easy junior year before all of her responsibilities kick in her senior year.
She’s unsure of what she wants to do after she graduates.
“I know I want to attend Tarleton, so I’m close to home. But I’m not sure what exactly I want to attend for.” Cielo said, “I know I want to be an FBI agent, but I don’t know what classes they take.”
Cielo is wanting to start life earlier than most people.
“I want to be married and financially secure at 25. But my family wants me to wait longer than that.”
In 20 years, Cielo wants to have a husband, a couple of children, and a three story house.
“I’m hoping to be married to a good man that can take care of my children and I.” She said, “I’m wanting at least three children, I’d definitely be open to more. I want to live in the country but not too far from the city.”
Cielo knows more about what she wants to do in the present, which is band, than in the future.
“I just performed on September 30. The performance itself could have been better. But I think we tried our best and did pretty good overall.” She said, “We placed 13 out of 14, which isn’t the best but we tried.”
The main reason Cielo joined band was because her brother was in band before her.
“As soon as I joined band I loved it. I knew that playing clarinet was something I was going to enjoy for the rest of my life.” She said, “The band competitions are very difficult but it’s fun and something I enjoy.”
The competitions consist of the band playing their instruments and sight reading.
“The sight reading is difficult, especially since you get a short amount of time to practice it.” She says, “But I know that if I think I can do it, I most definitely can and will.”
Cielo is also very passionate about her grades. She wants to graduate at a high level. Most importantly, she doesn’t want to disappoint her parents.
“My mom has really high hopes for me. She wants me to try my best in everything I do.” She said, “Growing up with Catholic parents taught me that I need to do my best even if I don’t think I can do it.”
When Cielo attends mass there’s a few things she wishes she could change.
“I feel really guilty for not knowing more about my religion. I’ve been Catholic my whole life and I feel like I should know more.” She says, “I get distracted very easily during mass. My mind will get sidetracked and before I know it I’ve zoned out through the whole thing.”
When Cielo is not attending mass she’s hanging out with friends or watching a good movie.
“I tend to act a lot like my friends when I’m around them. I’m really struggling to be more like myself.” She said, “I’m very appreciative of my friends, I love watching a good movie with them.
Cielo has a bright future and many accomplishments ahead of her.
“I know I can spend all my time worrying about what’s going to happen in the future.” She said. “But I’d much rather focus on what’s important now.”
